Yates McConnell...

...is a photographer from New Hill, North Carolina.

Since receiving his first point and shoot when he graduated from high school, Yates has been using photography as an excuse to get outside and get to know others. Travelling across the country with that camera, he fell in love with landscapes in places like Arches, Yosemite, and Glacier National Parks. Since then, he has spent time as a photojournalist in Chapel Hill, NC, developed a love for film photography, and tried to continue getting to beautiful landscapes with his camera, albeit a little more locally to the Southeast.

Growing up on a 45-acre farm in rural North Carolina, and a life-long skier, backpacker, and kayaker, the other things Yates pursues besides photography share that same passion for the natural world. He has degrees in environmental science and geography from the University of North Carolina, with environmental science research experience, all of which informs where he goes to take pictures, his subjects, and the relationships he develops through the viewfinder. His personal photography projects aim to show the beauty of the natural world, and why it's worth protecting.

Let's work together!

I fell in love with photography through photojournalism and getting to tell a story. Let me tell yours! You can view my work, contact me, and book me through the links at the top of the page, and I'd love to chat with you about if I'm the right person for the job.

I'm currently working in the Asheville area but will travel to Charlotte, Northwest North Carolina, and East Tennessee.
